young Korean artists in Italy
GALLERY ILBAEKHEON PIETRASANTA
Moo Kyeong Kang is a young South Korean artist. She shares the same dreams and anxieties as many of her peers and has a special talent: she can profoundly interpret her own frames of mind and express them candidly through painting. A rare talent, which Helen Kim – a trailblazer in Korean art education – recognized and decided to support. This gave Moo Kyeong the opportunity to exhibit for the first time in Italy, at the ilbaekheon gallery in Pietrasanta. The artworks presented included also the one reproduced on this page, inspired by the condition of isolation experienced with particular suffering by young people during the pandemic. “This artwork delineates the poignant emotion of loneliness, reflecting my deep feelings of powerlessness and emptiness during that period,” explains Moo Kyeong. “It depicts a negative feeling, but also captures my hope for overcoming the difficult moment and blossoming into authentic relationships once more.” The ilbaekheon gallery, a true artistic bridge between Korea and Italy, promotes other exhibitions for the summer, fitting into the vibrant context of the Korean community in Pietrasanta, the elected home of many artists who create their works here – and particularly at Nicola Stagetti’s Marble Studio.
