Skills and tools are required – but above all – it is about being able to wait for the seed to sprout, for the plant to grow and bear fruits.
It is astonishing to think how this type of attitude is shared by such a seemingly far-flung activity, as investment planning. It is Maria Rosaria Lenzi, wealth advisor at Fideuram-Intesa San Paolo Private Banking, who suggests the comparison. “Similarly to someone who cultivates a vineyard, our work is daily, constant”, she explains. “It follows the seasons, is exposed to the adversities of the markets, just as the countryside is exposed to the whims of the weather, and sometimes must endure less favorable vintages. But in due time, the moment of harvest comes.”

Time is a key component and primarily younger people can make it work to their advantage. “Putting away a small amount of one’s income, and doing it right now, starting with the first earnings, and then continuing steadily, month after month and year after year is at the core of the whole concept”, advises Michele Dal Poggetto, Maria Rosaria’s junior associate. Twenty-eight-year-old Michele addresses precisely his peers, typically more apt to live in the present than to make plans for the future. “The best way to build a solid future is adding little to little, with a targeted product such as a retirement fund or an accumulation plan. And it does not entail great sacrifices,” adds Maria Rosaria.

Downturns in the markets can turn into opportunities with an investment method of this kind. Depositing a constant amount, in fact, when prices are falling enables one to buy a greater quantity of securities, boosting the chances of growth over time of the accumulated capital, until harvest day arrives.
